Official figures published by analyst GfK Chart-Track have confirmed UK game retailers such as HMV and GAME recorded a disappointing sales slump in 2015, with software sales falling 6 percent over 2014.
News of high street retailers experiencing a sales decline should come as no surprise, with GAME recently pointing to “challenging trading conditions” as the reason behind its own pre-Christmas stoop.
Overall, though, MCV UK notes that an uptake in PS4 and Xbox One wasn’t enough to negate the sharp decline of PS3 and Xbox 360 sales, while Wii U software sales witnessed a small increase over the same period. Meanwhile, the high margin in pricing for current-gen titles means that the total annual revenue for 2015 stands at £928m, 2.2 percent shy of 2014’s record.
What do you make of these standings? Bear in mind that Chart-Track doesn’t factor in digital sales into its report.
