In an interview with MCV, Marketing Manager Joe Palmer revealed that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is “PlayStation’s largest ever software investment and we have a plan to support it for the whole year.”
As Naughty Dog detailed earlier this week, those plans include free multiplayer content until at least spring 2017, adding in more maps, more weapons, more skins, and co-op. There’s also a paid story add-on coming after the release of the first two multiplayer packs.
“The series is one of PlayStation’s biggest sellers,” Palmer added. “We have a huge existing fanbase who have already moved over to PS4, but lots of PS3 owners will also see this as the time to upgrade their console of choice.”
Much of Sony’s marketing this generation was targeted towards people new to PlayStation, and thanks to help from their retail partners and the successful launch of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, the Uncharted fanbase “is now far bigger than ever before.”
He concluded, “The game was developed as a playable summer blockbuster film so we’re confident it will have significant mainsteam appeal.”
You can see how well that investment paid off by reading our Uncharted 4 review.
It took Bloodborne 12 days to sell one million copies. Do you think Uncharted 4 will smash that mark?
