EA’s Peter Moore Unsure If There Will Be Consoles in the Future

Consoles won’t be around in the not-so-distant future, according to EA’s Chief Competition Officer Peter Moore, who believes all “games will be accessed by streaming technology.”

While Moore believes both the PS4 and Xbox One are “well set up to advance as technology does,” the EA executive noted to The Daily Orange that the need for hardware will change fairly dramatic as time wears on and technology advances.

“I’m not sure there will be consoles, as we know them anymore. Games will be accessed by streaming technology, so we don’t need hardware intermediaries in between the two. If you and I want to play Battlefield 12 against each other, we’ll just jump into a game via whatever monitor we happen to have in our homes. It’ll be on a chip, rather than in a box.”

Given the seemingly all-but-confirmed PlayStation 4.5 (bearing the codename Neo), it’s interesting to hear Moore lend a vote of confident to the PS4 and Xbox One when both Sony and Microsoft appear on the verge of unveiling hardware upgrades for each respective console.
