Last month, Sony said they expect to sell more than 17.7 million PlayStation 4s this fiscal year (ending March 31, 2017). Today, they narrowed that number to 20 million.

In their forecast for this year (above), Sony expects to move 20 million PS4s, up from 17.7 million in FY15 and 14.8 million in FY14. Since the PS4 is currently sitting at 40 million shipped, their estimate places the PS4 at 60 million as of April 1, 2017.

Other expectations from this fiscal year include an 8.3% increase in PlayStation sales, with PS4 hardware and software, including through the PlayStation Store, listed as reasons for the growth. They also forecast an operating income increase of 46.3 billion yen due to PS4 hardware and software, but note that declining PS3 software sales will hurt them.

Looking at the PlayStation 3, it reached 70 million sold in under six years. The PS4, meanwhile, was released in November 2013.

How do you think the PS4 will reach 20 million this year? PlayStation VR? A price cut? A hardware revision?
