Threshold Entertainment’s Tetris movie will herald a new sci-fi trilogy at the studio, as the story is seemingly too big to cram into a single feature.
That’s according to Producer Larry Kasanoff, who told Empire that the decision to spin out three movies isn’t about “wringing blood out of a stone;” rather, Threshold’s big-screen rendition of the seminal ’80s classic appears to be a tale that grew in the telling.
Per Empire: “The story we conceived is so big. This isn’t us splitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It’s just a big story.”
First announced back in 2014, the Tetris movie recently secured an $80 million budget replete with a co-production deal between China and the States. It’ll begin filming in the former country early next year, and though casting details remain under wraps for now, Kasanoff noted that he is embracing the film’s lowly expectations.
“We’re not going to have blocks with feet running around the movie. But it’s great that people think so. It sets the bar rather low!”
