Elite Dangerous Devs Do an AMA, Launch Trailer Flies Out

If your space faring itch still hasn’t been scratched by some of the games that focuses on the genre on the PlayStation 4, then Frontier Developments’ Elite Dangerous might just be the remedy.

In case you didn’t know, Elite Dangerous is now out on the PS4 (digital and retail), along with the Elite Dangerous Season Pass, both of which can be bought either piecemeal or as a bundle (Commander Deluxe Edition). Game features are listed below straight from the press release.

Elite Dangerous brings gaming’s original open-world adventure to the modern age with the 400 billion star systems of the real Milky Way re-created at their full galactic proportions, an evolving player-driven narrative and fully connected multiplayer experience.

  • Play Your Way. Fight. Trade. Explore. Survive. Starting with only a small starship and a handful of credits, blaze your own trail in a cutthroat galaxy and earn the skill, knowledge, wealth and power to stand among the ranks of the legendary Elite. Customize your ships, build a fleet and live a complete life on humanity’s galactic frontier.
  • A Hard Science Galaxy. From outer space to the surfaces of worlds, EliteDangerous uses real scientific principles to re-create the sights and spectacle of our own Milky Way galaxy at its true proportions, all powered by the most sophisticated simulation in videogames.
  • Massively Multiplayer. Experience unpredictable encounters as you cooperate and compete with players from around the world in the Milky Way galaxy of the fourth millennium. Journey alone or with friends in space and on planet surfaces.
  • Player-Driven Narrative. In an age of galactic superpowers and interstellar war, every player’s story influences the unique connected gaming experience and evolving narrative. Governments are overthrown, battles are lost and won, and humanity’s frontier is reshaped, all by players’ actions.

In related news, Frontier Developments’ David Braben went on Reddit to do an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session. Obviously, given this is a game that involves space travel and spaceships, the question of whether it’ll get PSVR support is in the cards. Braben remained non-committal and mentioned that the studio is focusing on the game’s quality first.

David Braben on PSVR support for Elite Dangerous:

I’m a huge fan of VR, and have been carefully following it from day one. The most important thing is it is a good experience, and we’re not there yet in terms of the quality. It’s certainly something we’d like to consider, but quality is vital.
