What's Your Favorite Sports Game?

MVP Baseball 2005 by a mile. It might honestly be one of the greatest sports games ever made, though that could be because I was in my early teens when I played it. Either way, it has an amazing soundtrack, tons of easter eggs, and I have great memories of going over friends houses to play it.

So many good ones to choose from, whether it's NHL 94 , NBA Jam , or NHL Hitz . However, my all time favorite has probably been Sports Talk Baseball on the Sega Genesis. Just so many great childhood memories in that game.

What is sports? Physical activity? I once played an epic game of Duck, Duck, Goose in the Tower in Destiny , if that counts. Easily my favorite sports game to date.
In all seriousness, if we want to add extreme sports, it's either
SSX Tricky or
Tony Hawk 3 and
4 . If we're not going down that path, I adored
Everybody's Golf .

It's been a while since I've played a sports game, but I used to love NFL Blitz on the N64 way back in the day. I really like more arcade-like sports experiences more than the type of sports game that's more common nowadays. I used to also play some NHL and WWE games back then too. Maybe I should give Everybody's Golf a try for a sports game closer to my tastes!

I don't enjoy traditional sports games, but I had a blast with the last Pro Cycling Manager title.

Sports games for me are seasonal. I'm playing mostly Madden right now and will probably end up with an NBA game too, but MLB The Show get's played year round and will always be my favorite. With San Diego Studios finally allowing game saves to be transferred year to year, I have been able to keep a couple of my RTTS players going for long careers: 17 seasons with my starting pitcher and 19 with my right fielder. No other sports game offers that type of experience and I love baseball.

Blitzball?
In all seriousness, I've always dabbled with PES and the FIFA franchise over the years. The Be a Pro mode was cool, as I basically projected my wistful dreams of playing soccer for a living onto an in-game avatar. Also, an honorable mention: FIFA Street . Executing some of those tricks on the fly was oh-so-satisfying.

For traditional sports, MLB The Show is great. While I loved Tony Hawk's Underground , the Skate series really had it beat. Just wish a new entry was arriving soon. For racing, Gran Turismo is my go-to series, while SSX is great when I want to hit the virtual slopes. Huh. Didn't realize I was that into sports games!

I've been enamored with a number of sports titles over the years from NHL 94 as a kid to playing way too much NFL Blitz across multiple platforms. Out of all of them, my all-time favorite has to be NBA Street Vol. 2 . It came out at the right time for me, where I had way too much free time, and I spent hundreds of hours breaking the ankles of players. Plus, it had Nelly in it, and as an 11 year old white kid - I adored Nelly at the time. Special shout-out to Super Mario Strikers on the GameCube, where I was an absolute beast with Waluigi.

Once upon a time, I was such a fan of sports games that I set out to search for a Madden PSP game in the UK (just imagine) after signing up for my university football team. I spent weeks looking for it everywhere, making phone calls to several customer services departments until I secured a copy. Ask me now what sports game I like and I'll look at you like you're crazy. I don't know what happened. I used to love them, especially the EA Sports franchises. Then that interest just died.
