The latest PlayStation 4 update, version 5.00, went live on October 3, but the update hasn’t installed perfectly for everyone. Some users have been getting the error code E-801809A8, which is preventing the updating from installing. Sony has stated that they’re currently looking into the error. Thanks to Antonio Filho for the tip.
This error has not been fixed yet, but PlayStation Forum user liu1845 seems to have a hot fix that worked for them:
Turn PlayStation 4 off (press and hold the power button). Turn [the PS4] on manually. Release only after you’ve heard two beeps: one when you initially press, and another 7 seconds later. Connect the DualShock 4 controller with the provided USB cable and press the PS button on the controller. Click on update.
Holding down the power button for seven seconds will boot the PlayStation 4 in Safe Mode, where you can also download updates. While this appeared to work for this user, your mileage may vary.
Version 5.00 has been in development for a while, and has a bunch of new updates for PS4 users:
Team Tournaments
Prepare to recruit the best players you know, because Team Tournaments on PS4 are almost here. With this new functionality, you’ll be able to compete against other teams for prizes and status.
Follow Anyone
Before 5.00, you were only able to follow Verified Accounts, but now you can follow any user without having to be friends with them (subject to privacy settings). This allows you to follow content creators, game broadcasters, and other gamers in a community without having to dip into your friends list.
