Witchfire Announced at The Game Awards, Coming From The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Developer

The next game from The Astronauts, the studio behind The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, finally has a trailer. The game is called Witchfire, and it blends the atmospheric worlds of walking simulators with exciting and fast paced shooter action. You can check out the trailer above.

As the trailer notes, Witchfre is a game from the creators of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, but also Painkiller and Bulletstorm. It’s a great fake out, as the developers are primarily known for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. As the trailer continues, it goes from looking like another creepy and atmospheric walking simulator to being revealed as a more brutal shooter title. It will be interesting to see what the melding of these two genres brings when the game finally releases.

Very little is currently known about Witchfire, but we’ll keep you updated as anything more about the game is revealed. You can read our review for The Astronauts’ previous game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter sets out to achieve a very specific goal and despite some slight missteps along the way, it largely succeeds in offering players a sense of spectral wonder through simplistic gameplay and stunning visuals, all wrapped in a well written mystery that leaves its mark.
