Following the release of Lords of the Fallen, the Dark Souls inspired action RPG, it was certain that we would be getting a sequel. However, about a year ago, it was suddenly clear that the Lords of the Fallen 2 was in a crisis. Polish company CI Games apparently found a brand new team to continue the development, which was previously in limbo.
The development process is now in the hands of a relatively small NYC-based team, Defiant Studios. The studio was founded back in 2016 by leaders and founders of Avalanche’s New York office (after the release of Just Cause 3). According to Defiant Studios’ LinkedIn page, they have 11-50 employees currently working up there.
CI Games boss Marek Tymiński said, “We talked to a number of globally respected studios that had shown a strong interest in making the next LOTF, and received several solid pitches. We finally decided to move forward with Defiant because we were impressed with their game concept, production expertise, and the pedigree of their developers.”
Defiant Studios boss David Grijns said, “Our team has been excited about the chance to make the next LOTF from the moment we started to work on our pitch for CI. We are particularly thrilled about the creative freedom that CI Games is willing to offer.”
It’s blatant at this point that Defiant was given a considerable amount of creative freedom with the project Lords of the Fallen 2. This indicates that the sequel is most likely different to what was initially planned. In addition, Lords of the Fallen 2 was originally supposed to hit stores in late 2017. Now, we have to wait longer to see how this revived project is coming along.
At this stage, nothing else is known, let alone an exact release date. We only know that the game is heading towards PC and consoles.
