My Brother Rabbit Release Date

My Brother Rabbit Launches on PS4 Fall 2018

The announcement trailer for My Brother Rabbit, developed by Artifex Mundi, was just released but it’s more cinematics than gameplay at this point. The whimsical mysterious mood is conveyed well, but not much else. My other takeaway is that the rabbit here looks horrifically disheveled, which potentially teases some darkness amidst the magic.

Based on the official website, this point-and-click adventure game mixes reality with a child’s imagination to create a surreal setting. The artstyle certainly has its charm. The vibrant colors, attention to detail, and storybook feel is reminiscent of Broken Age, Double Fine’s hit point-and-click adventure puzzle game. All of this is promising and the premise of My Brother Rabbit seems to be a heartfelt one.

A loving family discovers that their daughter has fallen ill. While her parents set out to get her the treatment she needs, her determined older brother turns to the power of imagination to help both of them cope.

But whether or not the player will be moved by this story depends on the quality of the writing. Regardless of how narratively powerful the game is or isn’t, a satisfying point-and-click adventure is dependent on the complexity and joy derived from puzzle solving. My Brother Rabbit will feature five different lands for players to traverse, “filled with incredible robo-mooses, levitating baobabs, giant mushrooms, and clocks melting to the rhythm of passing time.” So here’s hoping the gameplay lives up to the presentation.
