Lord of the Rings Gollum

Live the Gollum Life in the Next Lord of the Rings Game

A new The Lord of the Rings game based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “precious” book series and called The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be developed by Daedalic Entertainment. Its story will be from the perspective of the two-sided Gollum. Middle-earth Enterprises is working with the studio to create a narrative-focused action-adventure game that will stay true to the books, but will also include new parts to the story that tell us more about Gollum’s storyline. The game will follow his obsession with the One Ring.

Carsten Fichtelmann, the Founder and CEO of Daedalic, said to VentureBeat that “the game will be the first in a series of games” and “it will be premium.” The gameplay concept is quite fascinating and seems like it could be fitting for an adventure game. Fichtelmann explained to VentureBeat that, like the books and the films, you will have to decide which side to agree with when making a decision: Gollum or Smeagol.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be developed with the Unreal Engine, but it will take some time to release. The window set for the game is 2021. The PC has been listed but it is unclear if it will come out on the PS4, as Daedalic has said it will release on “all relevant console platforms at that time.” Perhaps this Lord of the Rings game will come to the PS5 or whatever next-generation system Sony has cooking?

If you’re curious about Daedalic Entertainment and you’ll be at PAX East 2019, there will be a cavalcade of games to try on the PAX East 2019 show floor. The company also has a few reveals coming up. The games it will show off are Iratus: Lord of the Dead, Unrailed!, Felix The Reaper, Barotrauma, Witch It, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout—Anniversary Edition, and the Switch versions of Deponia, The Long Journey Home and Silence. Unannounced games, including an adventure game and a multiplayer survival RPG, will be shown off.

Daedalic is headquartered at Hamburg, Germany and was formed in 2007. It focuses on the dying genre of point-and-click adventures. It now have over 80 employees and, in addition to the games above, also published Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, Blackguards, and Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth.
