Starting on August 6, 2019, Sony will be launching PS4 Tournaments: Challenger Series. This will allow players to compete in PS4 tournaments from the comfort of their own homes. Select AAA games will be applicable, with more to be added later in 2019.
The following games have been confirmed so far:
- Battlefield V
- FIFA 20
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Warface
The first tournament will begin with Mortal Kombat 11 and will take place seasonally. This gives players a chance to come back to various games often for some friendly competition and for the chance of winning prizes. Tournaments will be comprised of three stages. With Mortal Kombat 11, players must win three out of four matches to move on to the next stage. The 3/4 structure allows for more chances to win. It’s unclear if every game will follow this structure, as the blog post only highlights MK11, but perhaps this tournament is testing the waters to see how it will be received.
What tournament is complete without the chance to win some prizes? PS4 Tournaments: Challenger Series has you covered, as you can win a variety of things depending on your performance. These start with smaller tiered rewards like dynamic themes, but also give you a chance to win in-game currency and even cash prizes. For Mortal Kombat 11, the first 10,000 players who win three out of four matches will be rewarded with a MK11 PS4 theme. Stage 2 rewards have not yet been revealed. Interestingly, upcoming sports behemoths like Madden 20 and NHL 20 are not a part of the list, but might be added later on.
To start, head to the Events tab on your PS4 and go to the Tournaments section on August 6th. Keep in mind, you must have an active PS Plus membership to participate in these tournaments.
