PlayStation LifeStyle’s Chandler Wood mentioned in his recent hands-on preview of Dying Light 2: Stay Human that despite delays and development snafus, he feels pretty confident about the game’s February 2022 release. Those who are worried about yet another delay can rest assured that there is “zero” chance Dying Light 2 will be delayed again. At least that’s what developer Techland told MP1st in a new interview.
“The game is going to be released next year in February, and that’s what we’ve focused on, that’s what we’ve worked on. So absolutely zero chance of that [a delay] happening,” lead game designer Tymon Smektala said when quizzed about the launch date.
Smektala added that although the pandemic had a role to play in the delay, it wasn’t the main reason Techland decided to push Dying Light 2‘s launch.
“I think the most important reason for us is that when you work on a non-linear game, and you want to polish that, your’e actually not polishing one game, but few games at the same time,” Smektala continued. “Because the same game can have so many variants, and some of those variants can be so drastically different that you have to verify every playthrough – not just 1,000 times, but 1,000 times multiplied by the number of variations in the game.”
Smektala said that Dying Light franchise is Techland’s “baby” and the studio wouldn’t release it if it wasn’t up to the mark.
“I know that hearing about the delay is disappointing, but I think it’s better than getting a game which wasn’t meant to be released in the first place, that wasn’t ready to be released,” he concluded.
