The mass exodus at Ubisoft continues with Child of Light and Far Cry 3 director, Patrick Plourde. As reported by Axios, Plourde has decided to work independently after nearly 20 years at the company, during which he directed and worked on multiple successful projects including Rainbow Six Vegas, Assassin’s Creed, and Watch Dogs 2.
Ubisoft has confirmed the Far Cry 3 director’s departure
A company spokesperson confirmed Plourde’s departure to Axios, with Plourde himself stating that he now wants to venture into fields outside of gaming. “Most of my time will be working with Ubisoft, but now I’ll have a position outside a traditional structure (with mandate cross department) and I will be able to dabble with other fields outside gaming that I had eyes on for a while without having to ask my employer’s permission,” he said. He further tweeted:
R6 Vegas, AC, FC3, CoL, WD2… it’s been a privilege to collaborate with everyone at Ubi on these great games!
Now, I’m happy to share that I’m starting my own independent creative consultancy, where I will keep working with Ubisoft and also spend time on some personal projects.— Patrick Plourde (@patrick_plourde) April 13, 2022
According to Axios, Plourde is one of the Ubisoft executives who reportedly had “multiple misconduct reports” filed against him. This was revealed by A Better Ubisoft – a group of current and former Ubisoft employees who have been fighting for better working conditions and more accountability at the company. However, it looks like Plourde’s decision to resign did not stem from those reports or any of the investigations that Ubisoft claims to have been conducting into said complaints.
In other news, the next Battlefield 2042 update will apparently contain more than 400 bug fixes and improvements, and Firewall Zero Hour developer First Contact Entertainment seems to be working on an unannounced PSVR 2 game.
