While the first behind-the-scenes video explored Midgard, this second BTS montage focuses on God of War Ragnarok‘s Alfheim combat. Not only does the video show off a bunch of gameplay, but many of developer Santa Monica Studio’s animators and VFX artists join in on the commentary.
God of War Ragnarok Alfheim combat behind the scenes
As mentioned in the video, players will be exploring all nine realms this time around, and each will have its own collection of enemies to defeat. Just because Kratos returns to a realm he visited in the previous game doesn’t mean that the enemies will be the same. For example, Light Elves replace Dark Elves.
The developer states that it is “elevating the fluid and expressive combat of God of War Ragnarok, as well as the importance of building a unique, memorable, and varied cast of enemies for players to test their skill against.”
One example of combat evolving is Kratos’ ability to smash down from above with a pre-fall attack. This lets him land with force and immediately start dealing damage to enemies.
Players will get to test their own combat skills when God of War Ragnarok launches on November 9 for PS5 and PS4. Can’t wait until then? Have a read of our non-spoiler preview to get a taste of what the initial four hours of the game are like.
