Hogwarts Legacy has become Warner Bros Games’ biggest ever global launch. In just the first two weeks of sales on PS5, Xbox series X|S, and PC, the game has sold over 12 million copies. This number is only set to grow later on this year when the game is finally released on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Hogwarts Legacy raised $850 million in sales
The massive amount of revenue raised by Hogwarts Legacy during the game’s first two weeks has meant it has beaten all of Warner Bros Games’ previous titles to become their biggest ever launch, including any of the LEGO, Batman, Mortal Kombat, and Lord of the Rings games. Players have also amassed 280 million hours played, and the game became Twitch’s most-viewed single-player game ever. Even the Wizarding World Digital website saw a 300% increase in traffic as players sorted themselves into houses and earned their wands.
Despite the massive amount of interest in the game, Warner Bros Discovery’s financial results did decline in comparison to this time last year. During the financial results call, as transcribed by Seeking Alpha, the company said the game couldn’t save them from the loss of the “COVID-induced demand in the prior year.” Later on this year, WB Games will be releasing Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and it was revealed that Mortal Kombat 12 is also in development.
