Halo PS5 Rumor Picks Up Steam as Microsoft Reveals Franchise Plans

Over the weekend, Microsoft and 343 Industries announced the developer is changing its name to Halo Studios. Revealed alongside a new video, the developer will move away from its Slipstream engine for future projects, transitioning to Unreal Engine 5. This surprise change evoked more Halo PS5 rumors, as players believe this could be the start of bringing Master Chief to Sony’s platform.

Is Halo PS5 a real possibility?

As reported by Push Square, PlayStation players are beginning to believe a Halo PS5 game is a real possibility. Earlier this year, The Verge’s Tom Warren reported a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster is in the works, and that the game could make its way to PS5. While nothing is implicitly said about a remaster, the new footage of Halo Studios’ Project Foundry shows Master Chief donning the armor from the first entry, giving some credence to that rumor. If this is the remaster, then it’s possible the game may be headed to PS5.

The switch to Unreal Engine 5, and Master Chief’s Halo: Combat Evolved armor are the reasons players believe Xbox’s shooter is coming to PlayStation. On the Gaming Leaks and Rumors subreddit, one user said, “I know they are just in engine renders, but I feel like this soft confirms the Halo 1 remake.”

“The full leak said that Halo CE was getting a remake on UE5, they were changing how they would operate (rebrand) and that it was coming to PlayStation,” says another user. “2/3 were spot on, so yeah. Safe to assume the leak was correct.”

A Halo PS5 game would not be the first time Xbox brought games to Sony’s current platform. Pentiment, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, and Sea of Thieves are all currently available on PS5. This month, Activision (owned by Microsoft) is releasing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, so it wasn’t out of the picture. However, Master Chief and Halo is way more synonymous with the Xbox brand. That makes this potential move seemingly have more weight to it.
