Sonic Team producer Takashi Iizuka has weighed in on the PS5 Pro price debate, declaring that the console is “not that expensive” considering what it has to offer. Iizuka is of the view that the mid-gen upgrade is designed for high-end users, and would prove to be of value to them.
PS5 Pro price reflects quality, says Sonic Team producer Takashi Iizuka
IGN quizzed Iizuka about PS5 Pro’s $700 price tag at the Tokyo Game Show 2024, in response to which he acknowledged that the hardware seems expensive on the surface, but there’s more to it than that.
“I feel that with the quality that they are providing it’s not that expensive, and yeah, it would be really good for the high-end game users,” Iizuka opined. In the same interview, Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto declined to comment on PS5 Pro’s price, but did say that “in terms of the capabilities, we think that it’s definitely worthy of the ‘Pro’ name.”
Iizuka separately said that the PS5 Pro will help future Sonic games “express the speed of Sonic” alongside improving UI. That said, Sega will continue to support lower-spec consoles to “let many of the users keep playing Sonic.”
PS5 Pro will release on November 7.
