Anyone playing Silent Hill 2 this morning were greeted with a new patch. Silent Hill 2 update 1.04 brings a ton of bug fixes and adjustments to the remake, which is expected. What was not expected was it bringing a game breaking bug tied to a specific level.
What is the game breaking bug in Silent Hill 2 update 1.04?
Players are reporting a progression block during the Labyrinth level after Toluca Prison. According to a post from the official Silent Hill X (formerly Twitter) account, the block occurs when players load save data from the level. They also state they have identified the issue, and they are currently working on a fix that will release “as soon as possible.”
Anyone looking to continue their progress before the fix is implemented can still do so. The proposed workaround from the post asks to simply load an earlier save before entering the Labyrinth. The team apologized for the inconvenience, and thanks all the players for their patience.
While Silent Hill 2 update 1.04’s highlight is this unfortunate bug, it does fix several issues for both the PC and PS5 versions. While most of these fix a lot of quirky technical issues, they all improve the experience overall. PC seems to get the most from this update on the technical side. This includes improved performance and optimization on Steam Deck, and fix some stuttering issues. Anyone that wants to see the full PS5 patch notes can check them out here.
Despite some technical flaws, Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake is both a critical and financial success. As some retailers began to break the street date, the first review appeared, and was positive. As more reviews trended towards being favorable, Bloober Team’s expressed their relief in some goofy social media posts. During that launch week, Konami announced the game sold 1 million copies which included physical and digital sales.
