PS5 Pro not next gen

PS5 Pro Not a Next-Gen System, Sony Reminds Fans

Sony Interactive Entertainment co-CEO Hideaki Nishino has reiterated that the PS5 Pro isn’t a next-gen console. While this is fairly obvious, we’ve seen some strange discourse surrounding the mid-gen upgrade’s specs, with some calling it a “boosted PS5” as if it’s meant to be something different.

Is PS5 Pro a bridge to the next-gen PS6?

In a recent interview with Variety, Nishino emphasized that the PS5 Pro is still part of the PS5 family, and is merely meant to offer customers a choice between a standard console or one with boosted specs for better visuals and gameplay performances.

“PS5 Pro will do everything that PS5 does,” Nishino said. “It’s consumer choice. If they see a need for more visuality, they will get it. We wanted to provide an option for the consumer within the generation.”

The PS6 will understandably build upon existing technology like its predecessors. “It’s not like we just make a next step and we don’t know about the two steps ahead,” Nishino explained. “There are technologies we can grow up in three years’ time or five years’ time. Innovation and technology advancement is more quicker in a modern world.”

PS5 Pro will launch this Thursday, November 7.
