From start to finish, Ubisoft’s, Konami’s, Electronic Arts’ and Sony’s press conferences were exciting, with all 3 E3 press conferences witnessing a slew of exciting announcements. So, PlayStation LifeStyle has compiled a list of the top 20 E3 2010 announcements, because, you know, top 10 lists – who needs them?
20. Kevin Butler’s motivational speech at Sony’s E3 press conference.
Nuff said.
19. Driver: San Francisco.
Driver was certainly one of the defining games during the original PlayStation era. An undercover cop tackling crime, Driver delivered an enjoyable experience through a 3D city which was always filled with high-speed chases. The sequels which followed, unfortunately for Ubisoft, Driver 2 and the Driv3r, undoubtedly came close to destroying the franchise. However, Ubisoft want to regain the AAA status which the Driver series held back in the old days with Driver: San Francisco and we can’t wait.
18. Sony partnership with Coke for the PlayStation Move.
Coke partnership with Sony in a move which sees their marketing efforts for their motion controller, PlayStation Move, ramped up. Sony and Coca-Cola signed a deal to promote PlayStation Move recently. The partnership will help Sony advertise the new controller against competition from Microsoft’s Kinect and Nintendo’s Wii. Later in the year, 130 million Coca-Cola products will feature PS Move games on their cover, bringing the controller to the masses. If that doesn’t help Sony sell a few motion controllers, then nothing will.
17. Flower developers announce next project.
thatgamecompany. Renowned for their work on the fantastic PlayStation Network exclusive title: Flower, had recently announced their next project: Journey. The award-winning developers are aiming to create a world that feels vast and somewhat unfamiliar. Journey is born. The game begins with a character waking up in a desert, with no clues as to what might have happened in their past or what might happen to them next. There’s only a tall mountain in the distance, with screams coming from the wind making the player to set out and explore. Can I get a hell yeah?
16. One of PlayStation Move’s first proper games: Sorcery.
A new PlayStation 3 exclusive: Sorcery was announced as one of the first proper PlayStation Move’s title. The game will be developed by The Workshop and is based upon an apprentice sorcerer. There will be combinable spells which would work perfectly by flicking your wand – I mean PlayStation Move controller – up and down.
15. Michael Jackson title.
We certainly did not see this coming, but it came, and it made us all moon walk when it was revealed at the end of Ubisoft’s E3 conference. The game will be an “interactive performance-based video game”. The title will include the most famous tracks from Michael Jackson music career such as Beat it and Billie Jean, as well as “an array of his awe-inspiring dance moves for players to learn and emulate within the game.” Additionally, fans will also be able to sing along and test their vocal skills. Michael Jackson: The Game will be available on major platforms, including the PlayStation 3 and PSP this holiday. You’ve been hit by, you’ve been hit by, a smooth criminal!
14. 70 PSP games.
Sony certainly put a lot off effort into their PSP at last year’s E3 conference, however, this year they avoided any PSP2 talk but they did announce a massive line up of games for the PlayStation Portable. Over 70 portable titles will be released by December. The 3rd Birthday, God of War: Ghost of Sparta and many more are all included in the massive line-up.
13. Need For Speed: Pursuit announced.
Ah, Need For Speed. I felt the Need For Speed when Burnout Paradise developers, Criterion, announced it would be working on a new Need For Speed game. So, it was announced by Electronic Arts during their E3 press conference entitled, “Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit”, and will take gamers and fans alike back to the old NFS days. Game’s out on November 16th, 2010. Bring it, we say.
12. PlayStation Move title: Heroes on The Move revealed.
Ratchet and Clank may have starred in their best game yet last October in PS3 exclusive Crank in Time, but the upcoming PlayStation Move exclusive Heroes on the Move could be their most intense and undoubtedly unique adventure yet. The handful of some of the most recognizable PlayStation mascots, including Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Sly Cooper and more.
11. The Sly Cooper Collection unveiled.
Sly Cooper, the series of action-stealth platforming video games which was and still is adored by the PlayStation faithful during the PlayStation 2 era. Fans and gamers alike have eagerly anticipated a Sly Cooper collection for quite a while now and at Sony’s E3 conference it was announced that the 3 Sly Cooper titles from the PS2 era would be remastered into one Blu-Ray disk and it will also be PlayStation Move compatible. Also, the HD-revision of the entire 3 game collection will utilize 3D technology. We’re pumped, and you should be too.
10. PS3 gets exclusive Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood content.
Sony put a lot of focus on Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood during their E3 press conference. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was confirmed to be receiving a multiplayer beta before the expo, and it was confirmed that the PlayStation 3 would be exclusively receiving the Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood beta.
9. PlayStation 3 gets Dead Space 2 exclusive content.
During EA’s press conference they said the Dead Space 2 trailer would be shown in full at the Sony E3 presser which inevitably hinted at some sort of exclusive game content. And that’s exactly what happened as Sony announced a PlayStation 3 exclusive Limited Edition Dead Space 2 pack which also includes Dead Space Extraction due for release on January 28th, 2011. Extraction was also confirmed to be PlayStation Move compatible.
8. Never Dead announcement for consoles.
Never Dead, the recently announced third-person shooter is one title to look out for due to its sheer amount of insane gruesome action. The main character can lose limbs and can pick them up and put them back on again, and that’s exactly why we want this game to arrive as soon as possible. Hell, why don’t you just witness the madness yourself:
7. New Silent Hill announced.
Silent Hill 8 was always imminent to occur during Konami’s press conference. During their E3 press conference, the next Silent Hill iteration was announced. The game was already confirmed a few months back to be making a comeback on current gen consoles and now we can’t wait to see the level of horror the game brings to the genre.
6. Over 20 3D capable games to be released by March, 2011.
During the early stages of Sony’s E3 press conference, current Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of SCE, Kaz Hirai, reiterated Sony’s focus on 3D and how it would be leading in that market In fact, by the end of March, 2011, the PlayStation 3 will have 20 natively 3D-designed titles. 3D capable once released, no patches. This, of course, shows Sony’s plans towards the technology they wish to incorporate into all their products.
5. PlayStation Move pricing.
The PlayStation Move also had a lot of time being showcased as Sony showed their extensive plans for the motion controller. Many games were announced for which would be compatible with the motion controller and Sony even unveiled a brand-new PlayStation 3 Move bundle, with the controller priced very competitively at $49.99. Pre-orders confirmed, then.
4. PlayStation Plus reveal.
The much rumored PlayStation Plus was announced. PlayStation Plus is a paid for service adding more quality to Sony’s ever growing PlayStation Network. While PlayStation owners can still continue to have free access to PlayStation Network’s content, PlayStation Plus subscribers will gain access to an exclusive set of features such as betas and a lot more.
3. Gran Turismo 5 release date.
Can I get a “finally”? My hands were ready to drop down dead due to the typing of so many Gran Turismo 5 articles regarding the racers’ release date. Well, finally: it was announced during E3 2010 that Gran Turismo 5’s release date status would be announced next E3. Joking aside, game’s out November 2nd, 2010. You have no idea how good it feels to finally say a solid release date for Gran Turismo 5.
2. Twisted Metal.
“It’s good to be back” says the recently revealed PlayStation 3 exclusive Twisted Metal trailer, and indeed it is good to have the iconic PlayStation mascot ‘Sweet Tooth’ back onto the PlayStation family. David Jaffe coming onto the Sony E3 stage and announcing something which he has denied for oh so, so long must of shocked every PlayStation 3 owner watching the conference. We love you, Jaffe.
1. Portal 2.
Did anyone see this coming? Not in a million years. Gabe Newell, the man which has been slated by countless PlayStation owners due to his harsh words for Sony’s black behemoth machine came to praise the console. The announcement of Portal 2 is what could of made a lot of people’s E3s, and Gabe Newell to announce it himself made it all a bit more special.
